Audience Theory 2

1) Social learning theory has been criticised for simplifying the causes of violence in society. Do you think the media is responsible for anti-social behaviour and violence? - I think that anti-social behavior and violence can be partially blamed on media but not fully because there is other things that can result in people becoming violent. For example the upbringing of a person or past experiences could have a large impact on the way they act however some people could be very passive or be intruiged by villains in movies. 2) How is social learning theory relevant in the digital age? Are young people now learning behaviour from social media and the internet? Give examples. - In my opinion the social learning theory is not as relevant now because audiences are not as easily influenced as before. For example in the 1930's when it was World War 2, Adolf Hitler had someone in charge of propaganda, Joseph Goebbels. This was a way of Hitler making the people of Germany think that

1) Read this  Mail Online article about the effects of videogames . How does this article link to the hypodermic needle model? The magazine article clearly links to the hypodermic theory seeing as it clearly stated that some people were made to play violent video games and as a result their behaviour seemed to become more aggressive and the whole concept of the hypodermic theory is that audiences are easily brainwashed with information without questioning if it is true or false. For example when Hitler was ruling in Germany during the war he used lots of propaganda which made people believe that he was some type of hero and he wanted the best for them. 2) How does coverage of the Talk Talk hacking case (see Daily Mail front page below) link to the hypodermic needle model? Why might someone  criticise  this front page?   Some people may say that the violent games were a big reason for why he became a hacker because he could’ve probably been motivated or ‘inspired’ by the aggre

Moonlight review

Moonlight Review At first I thought the movie would be about a young boy that involved himself in drugs a and gang activity and I thought this seeing as the neighbourhood in which he grew up in seemed to be quite poor and ghetto. I can tell the Chiron’a character avoids eye contact with many males probably to try and avoid the fact that he knows he is gay and he doesn’t really have much to say which highlights how anti social he is as towards everyone The Miami I think was done purposely because I think they wanted to make the scene romantic and make a statement that whether you are gay or not the feelings are the same Juan seemed very manly and didn’t have such a good “job” but even when he was given hints that Chiron was gay he still took him in and accepted him which shows the crowd that even the people you wouldn’t expect to accept homosexuals can The ocean/beach seemed to be Chirons getaway place where he could openly be himself without being judged by anyone around h

Narrative

1) At the beginning of suicide squad everyone is quite calm and there are no problems however as the movie continues theres the Evil Enchantress that destroys everything and then at the end as the clip shows every is fixed again. An good example of a establishing shot as an opening is empire because it sets the scenen and shows the audience how large the setting is. 3) Provide three different examples from film or television of characters that fit Propp's hero character role. Episodic narrative (the series): Each series has its own narrative arc, so within the episode the problem is always solved. Each episode has it's own problem that gets solved. Overarching narrative (the serial): The series uses the conventional narrative arc over a number of episodes. The resolution normally takes place at the end of the season within the series. Often, the beginning of each episode begins with a summary of what happened in the previous episode.  Mixed narrative: Som

Media Awards

Euphoria One of the strongest points of this film was the use of sound and audio. Dialogue was an important aspect of this film in order to keep up with the story line. The use of parallel was effective because it heightened the feeling of tension in the film, engaging the audience more having more of an impact on the audience. The use of different camera angles also engaged the audience - the angle from the characters perspective was effective as it put us in the character's shoes, grabbing the audiences attention. The film included the genres drama and action which was recognised through the conventions used such as the build of tension as the guns were taken out of the briefcase. The use of the prop of guns was a signal that this film

Icon, index, symbol: blog task Create a new blogpost called 'Semiotics: icon, index, symbol blog task' 1) Find three examples for each: icon, index and symbol. Provide images or links. Icon: Index: Symbol:  2) Why are icons and indexes so important in media texts? 3) Why might global brands try and avoid symbols in their advertising and marketing? 4) Find an example of a media text (e.g. advert) where the producer has accidentally communicated the wrong meaning using icons, indexes or symbols. Why did the media product fail? 5) Find an example of a media text (e.g. advert) that successfully uses icons or indexes to create a message that can be easily understood across the world. These three images show  icons  seeing as they are a  physical resemblance  to the thing that is being represented, a photo of an object is a good example of a icon. These three are examples of an  index  which is evidence of what is being represented. For example the f

MIGRAIN October assessment

1) Type up your feedback in  full  (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential). WWW: Good effort in the final question with a good grasp of reception theory  EBI: You must answer the question and focus on question keywords (Q1 marks no reference to Todorov)  2) Read the  mark scheme for this assessment  carefully. Identify at least one potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment. - I could have used more judicious use of theoretical frame work and more media language could've given me more marks in question 1 - For question 2 I could've used better subject terminology  - For question 3 better knowledge and understanding of the influence genre has on the audience and society could have gotten me more marks and also if I added examples  - Better subject terminology would have got me more marks 3) Read this  exemplar response  from one of the Y12s (one of the best, which is a strong B grade).  Ide
