MIGRAIN October assessment
1) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).
WWW: Good effort in the final question with a good grasp of reception theory
EBI: You must answer the question and focus on question keywords (Q1 marks no reference to Todorov)
2) Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Identify at least one potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment.
- I could have used more judicious use of theoretical frame work and more media language could've given me more marks in question 1
- For question 2 I could've used better subject terminology
- For question 3 better knowledge and understanding of the influence genre has on the audience and society could have gotten me more marks and also if I added examples
- Better subject terminology would have got me more marks
3) Read this exemplar response from one of the Y12s (one of the best, which is a strong B grade). Identify at least one potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment.
-The example response has a clear introduction to the first question which I could add to my response and there is also quotes embedded which is good use of evidence.
- There is lots of detail in question 2 and the explanation and language used is high level
- Comparing the example response for question 3 to mine it is clear that a decent amount was written so this could be something I missed out on
- In question 4 the use of embedded evidence is good and more then one example of each topic in reception theory is given
4) Did you get any media terminology or theory wrong in the assessment? Make a note of it here for future revision, including theories/terminology that you could have used but didn't.
- I didn't get narrative theory correct
5) Identify your strongest question. Why did you do better on this question?
- I did better on question for because I took a good amount of time on this question and I put more detail into the points I was explaining so it made sense
6) Identify your weakest question. Why did you score lower on this particular task?
- My weakest question was question 3, not only because I didn't write a decent amount but also because my knowledge on the importance of genre was not good enough
- Question 3 - LR

Genre is important
to both media producers and the audience because they have to make it clear to
everyone what type of film they are creating.
Genre is
beneficial for media producers and is has a big impact on how much profit they
make from making a film. Certain genres have become more popular over the years
so if, for example, a producer chose to make a sci-fi movie then this wouldn’t have
such a wide audience because it doesn’t really attract much people in this modern
society however if a producer makes a horror or comedy film they are almost
certain to make huge amounts of money depending on how good the quality of the
movie is.
It is also important
to the audience because we would have a certain genre that we would already know
we prefer better then another. For example if we saw that a new horror movie
was released when we’re really into romance movies then we most probably will not
purchase it or even take time to watch it however a romance movie would get our
full attention.
