Boy stabbed to death over the place he lived  Jaydon James was out with his friends in Coventry when he was attacked then later died in hospital. He had only turned 16 with the rest of his life ahead of him and his sister confirmed that he was targeted simply because of his postcode. She described him as  "sweetest, funniest most kind-hearted boy". Soft or Hard News? This is an example of hard news seeing as there was a stabbing and death involved. The actions of one person led to the death of another and the grief of family and friends which makes it 100% hard news   Click bait  or Quality Journalism? In my opinion this is quality journalism seeing as it is a very severe topic and was not published simply for the entertainment of the audience. It is a very sensitive article and is not advertised in a way to make people read for diversion

Students who gave a Nazi salute at Prom will not be punished  Students at a high school in Wisconsin did a Nazi salute at prom which caused the high school to be put under investigation but because of the first amendment (which grants American citizens freedom of speech) none of the students involved could be punished for their actions. ' The investigation revealed that the photo was taken before prom by a student's father and included current and former students. It was initially shared on Twitter with the caption "We even got the black kid to throw it up #barabooproud," Soft news or hard news? In my opinion this is soft news even though the actions of these students was extremely foolish because they did not break a law or physically hurt someone therefore it cannot pass as hard news. Quality Journalism or Clickbait? In my opinion this is clickbait because the fact that it is a negative action that people with common sense should know not to do woul

It remains profitable now it is owned by Johnston Press (although it may be soon sold so this may jeopardise its mission statement). - Selection of news emphasises quality – largely hard news (politics, economics etc.) includes analysis column acknowledging t

Ex NBA player aims to bring back black Santa Ex NBA player Baron Davis has made it his mission to bring back a black Santa in order to " celebrate diversity and spread positivity with the lovable character". He has made merchandise to promote his idea for adults and children and not only does he want to spread diversity but he feels like, especially in America, African-Americans have recently had a very difficult time and this could be a way to bring an ounce of happiness. Clickbait? I feel like this is clickbait because it is not a serious situation and it would entertain people, especially those who are familiar with Baron Davis or fans of him. Ideologies? This news website seems to publish plenty stories on race (especially African Americans)  which makes this news story fit for The Voice as it talks about 'Black Santa'

F ire Challenge  that led to many harmed There is a viral challenge called the 'fire challenge' which has led to many incidents and visits to the hospital. One patient that was harmed by this challenge was called  Timiyah Landers (12 years old) and was "left in need of major surgeries". The challenge is that you must put a flammable liquid on yourself, set it on fire and then run to water in order to settle it but it has not turned out well for plenty. In my opinion this is a mixture of soft news and hard however it is mostly hard seeing as it has harmed many people and could continue to hurt more if it is not stopped. This could be slightly seen as clickbait as many people have probably heard of or seen the fire challenge on social media themselves and would want to read the article simply because they know of it. Ideologies? - This news story revolves around social media which makes sense as it is a website aimed at teenagers

Mail Online: California Fires

Image
This is just one of the lots of terrible videos that show to which extent the California fires have turnt into. 220 people are classed as missing and 42 people have now been pronounced dead. There has been animals who have been burnt and terribly injured, remains are found in cars, many houses have been destroyed including celebrities such as Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke In my opinion this is hard news and it is not clickbait seeing as this is a very sensitive topic which could harm a large amount of people. There has been lives lost and this also environmentally damages California seeing as the fire is reaching a large amount of land  News Values: In terms of news values I think this is a surprise   for many because no one thought that a fire this big would occur and destroy the lives of thousands Also immediacy seeing as it is currently happening and we are being updated on every little fact
