1) Read the article and summarise it in one sentence.
It talks about a variety of ideologies which are present in our society today

2) What view of capitalist ideology is presented in the Hunger Games films?

The Hunger Games very clearly highlights how the more wealthy are much more important then the poor. The rich do nothing but control the poorer population and only think about things that will benefit them which results in working class rebelling.

3) What do the Hunger Games films suggest about the power of the media to shape and influence ideological beliefs?
It shows that Hunger Games has successfully made people think that in a way it is normal seeing as it is very popular and it promotes the idea that rich people are the only ones that can really benefit in life because they have the power to control and they have money, they have no worries but then it also makes it seem as if the violence is a norm.

  • Put your families first
  • Always work hard for money
  • Good should overcome evil
  • Women should act feminine
3) What does Gramsci's theory of hegemony suggest about power and ideology in society?
This theory suggest that the upper class people have created these ideologies and spreaded them out in society so that it is easier for them to manipulate people that are much less wealthier and much poorer because then people believe that the "elite group" are much greater seeing as that is what most ideologies suggest.

4) What does French theorist Louis Althusser suggest about ideology and consumerism?

He believes that passive people and consumers live by ideologies and he thinks it is quite smart how people (elite/upper class) use these ideas to manipulate.
5) Do YOU agree with the idea behind They Live - that we are unthinkingly controlled by the media which is run in the interests of the economic elite? These are the big questions of A Level Media!
In my opinion some people, without noticing, are controlled by what the media portrays and this happens to a small amount of the public however I think this was more of a problem in the 1900's when people were not educated or smart enough to notice that not everything is true seeing as media was not such a big thing before however now in the modern day I think most people are more intelligent and  understanding of the media seeing as majority of the population uses it therefore we are much more active and not manipulated so easy.
